Benfica and FC Porto finished in the Top 5 of European clubs that net profited the most from transfers during the last summer and recent winter transfer windows (2024-25 calendar year).
According to the highly respected Football Observatory (CIES), Benfica made a net transfer profit of €92 million, while their rival FC Porto made a profit of €82 million. This number comes from selling minus buying.
Benfica had a positive balance of €92 million, having earned €169 million in sales and invested €77 million in purchasing players. FC Porto was a little behind, but still with a positive result of €82 million with €160 million in sales and purchases worth €78 million.
SC Braga also made the list with a profit of €28 million. Not bad for Portugal’s fourth most successful club.
Sporting CP presented €31 million of unfavorable balance sheet between their purchases and sales.
With regard to the list of clubs that received the most money in sales, Benfica, with 169 million euros, appears in sixth place, slightly ahead of FC Porto with 160 million euros.
Sporting CP appears in only 71st place with 46 million.
In Portugal, selling players at the highest value is necessary as the other revenue platforms of TV and commercial activity (kits, memorabilia, tickets, etc.) don’t bring in the same sizeable revenue so quickly.
