Round Up: Benfica, FC Porto Record Easy Victories Ahead of Thursday’s Cup Classico; Boavista Wins Again; Rio Ave Earn Big 2Liga Win Against Casa Pia

Both Benfica (7-1) and FC Porto (4-0) each had no problems recording big victories on Sunday ahead of their single elimination Taca da Portugal Classico on Thursday night in the Estádio do Dragão.

Rafa scored his seventh goal of the season and had four assists to bring his Liga assist total to 14  in a 7-1 rout of Maritimo in the Luz .

Darwin scored a brace to take over the Liga lead in goals with 13, which is one more than Porto’s Diaz. However, Darwin could lose three goals if the BSAD x Benfica match is ordered to be re-played. He had a hat-trick in that controversial match.

Yaremchuk also scored tonight to end a scoring drought. Goncalo Ramos scored his first goal and Gilberto had his fourth.

Porto received goals from Diaz, Otavio, Zaidu, and an own goal to win comfortably at Vizela 4-0.

Porto have now won 10 straight Liga matches and stretch their long streak of no losses in Liga to 43 dating back to October 2020.

Neither Jorge Jesus or Sergio Conceicao were on the sidelines tonight due to 15 day suspensions. They will also each miss the Classico on Thursday.

Boavista won their second straight match 1-0 on a goal by Hamache in the 34th minute. Boavista are starting to show signs of better play under recently hired manager Petit.

SC Braga defeated BSAD 1-0 with a quick goal 43 seconds into the match for the home win.

In the second division earlier today the big story was Rio Ave winning at Casa Pia 1-0, which helps them now level with Casa Pia in second place with 27 points.

Casa Pia hosts Sporting this week in the Taca de Portugal and one has to wonder if they were perhaps looking ahead to that single elimination match.

FC Porto B defeated Ac. Viseu 1-0 and Estrela Amadora won at Mafra 2-0.

Three more matches tomorrow led by first place Benfica B against Vilafranquense.
