Estoril x FC Porto Match Continues in Uncertainty

Estoril has been in the news the last few days with a number of players and staff testing positive.

As a result, there is a question of whether or not their match against FC Porto will take place on Saturday evening 18:00 at Estádio António Coimbra da Mota.

The first news reports said Estoril would field a squad of their U23 players, but later testing showed a number of U23 infected.

Yesterday, reports surfaced that Estoril would seek to postpone the match.

Today, the latest news says the Liga, Estoril and FC Porto were unable to come to an agreement to postpone the match, but Porto requested 24 hours to decide after they further study their schedule.

Estoril per O Jogo suggested they play on January 25 or 26. These are the dates for the Final 4 for the Taca da Liga that neither of these teams are playing since they are already eliminated.

However, Porto would likely be reluctant to play since they will have players missing on international duty that week.

As a result, everyone needs to wait for Porto to respond on Wednesday on whether they can postpone.

The Liga recently passed a rule saying a club must have at least 13 players (including goalkeeper) on their ficha (matchday lineup card) to play. It remains to be seen if Estoril have that many.
