FC Porto Back to Second Place & Vitória SC Demolish Gil Vicente, Video Highlights; Famalicão Seeks New Manager

These days not many people are happy with FC Porto, but tonight there is very little to complain about as Porto defeated Casa Pia 2-0 to go three points behind first place Sporting CP after 12 Match Days.

After a scoreless first half in the Dragão that had supporters nervous with no scoring, Fabio Vieira (51′) and Samu (54′) quickly scored within three minutes for a comfortable victory to give 42-year-old Birthday boy Vitor Bruno a night to relax.

Galeno had several chances and Otavio rattled the post but the match finished 2-0.

Tonight’s attendance was announced as 32,810 and was low by usual standards, but the late Monday night start during the beginning of the work week didn’t help.

Porto took more shots (17-10) en route to jumping back into second place and perhaps calming many supporters who are not happy with this season, including their Europa League performance.

Earlier in the day in front of 11,317 Vitória SC demolished regional Northern rival Gil Vicente 4-0 on goals by Chucho Ramirez, Manu Silva, and Nelson Oliveira. Sandro Cruz had an own goal for Gil who struggled all tonight.

Vitoria out-shot Gil 19-3 in a chilly night up north.

Staying in the North, Famalicão are seeking a new manager after Armando Evangelista has reportedly been let go. At press time that is just a story and nothing official yet, but already O Jogo is leaking candidates being mentioned such as former Rio Ave manager Luis Freire and former  Gil Vicente, Arouca, and SC Braga manager Daniel Sousa.
