Friday Round Up, Saturday Preview

Week 30 of the Liga NOS and 2Liga schedule kicked off on Good Friday.

Sporting CP went out to Madeira and came away with a 1-0 win against Nacional on a goal by mid-season signing Phellype to record the team’s season-best eighth straight victory.

Feirense didn’t play, but Aves 2-0 upset win over Vitória de Guimarães mathematically doomed the club from Santa Maria da Feira to relegation with four weeks still left, including tonight against SC Braga.

A group of Guimarães fans unhappy with that loss expressed their disappointment and that forced police to intervene and calm the situation. Manager Luis Castro admitted after the match it was his team’s worst home loss of the season.

Tondela earned a big win in their relegation battle defeating Boavista 1-0, while Vitória Setúbal played to a 1-1 draw with Portimonense with Setubal native Jose Mourinho watching from the stands.

Today, FC Porto host Santa Clara looking to take over first place for at least 48 hours and put pressure on Benfica who play Monday night at home against Marítimo.

The 2Liga schedule started early on Friday morning with Sp. Covilhã defeating FC Porto B 2–1 via an 89th minute goal. Estoril also won against Oliveirense keeping their hopes alive in the promotion battle.

Paços Ferreira and promotion specialist manager Vitor Oliveira host Ac. Viseu today looking to inch closer to returning to Liga NOS after a one year absence. They currently own a 10 point lead over third place Estoril.

Benfica B host second place Famalicão in Seixal.

Lastly, in news outside Portugal, Portuguese-heavy Wolves play Brighton in EPL action.
