Rafael Leão Scores Again for Milan, Questions Continue to Arise Over Fonseca’s Usage of Him

Rafael Leão continues to shine at AC Milan but has reportedly hit a bumpy road with Portuguese manager Paulo Fonseca.

Fonseca’s usage of Leão the past few months has attracted attention.

Leao had a productive 45 minutes in the Champions League against Slovan Bratislava, coming on at halftime for Noah Okafor and scoring the goal that gave them a 2-1 lead during the 68th minute.

Milan went on to win 3-2.

It was a performance that will surely boost the winger’s confidence, given that he has found himself falling in the order lately under Fonseca.

Over the past few months, Leao’s future at AC Milan has become increasingly uncertain, with reports emerging of a rift between him and Fonseca. Therefore, the club is contemplating Leao’s future with some reports saying there is strong interest from Barcelona.

Leao will hope to build on his performance in the Champions League in Milan’s next match against Empoli on Saturday at San Siro.

“Fonseca knows that I don’t like sitting on the bench, but if he decides otherwise, I’m always ready for my team. I’m happy, the manager is doing a good job and we want to understand his ideas even more. Results will come with time,” he said post-match.

Fonseca commented “I always talk with Rafa, he knows why he didn’t play today. He understood, and when he came on he was decisive. I think that’s what we all want. I’m happy. Even when he’s on the bench he always wants to help the team and that’s positive.”

Milan sit 16th in the League Phase of the Champions League.
