Trincão scored the winner for a brace in the 66th minute and Sporting hung on for a win that brings tremendous relief to end a four-match losing streak and for the time being calm Sporting Nation.
Sporting took 20 shots compared to 8 by their opponent. They also had a 10 to 1 corner kick advantage. Despite that, Boavista played tough and gave Sporting a scare.
Sporting next will be at home on Wednesday in the Portuguese Cup for a match against Santa Clara, who already beat them 1-0 in their own stadium a few weeks ago in Liga action that started the losing streak.
In other Saturday action, Nacional defeated Moreirense 1-0 on a 55th minute goal by Jose Gomes. A terrible result for Moreirense who has already defeated Santa Clara, FC Porto and Sporting this season. They couldn’t win tonight in lovely Madeira.
Gil Vicente made the long trip down to Algarve and came away with the three points due to an own goal in the 47th minute by Farense’s Lucas Africo. Gil time move to 9th Place in the table.
