The Portuguese women’s national team continues to grow and their latest accomplishment is qualifying for the Euro 2025.
The women’s Euro, commonly referred to as UEFA Women’s Euro 2025 or simply Euro 2025, will be the 14th edition of the UEFA Women’s Championship and the next tournament will be played in Switzerland from 2 to 27 of July 2025.
The draw is scheduled for December 16 in Lausanne, Switzerland.
Portugal took the early lead in the 13th minute when Joana Marchao’s cross deflected in off Aneta Dědinová but just past the half-hour a handball gave Czechia a penalty, which was converted by Kateřina Svitkova for 1-1.
They set up a very intense second half.
With 14 minutes left in Teplice, Joana Marchão’s free-kick was volleyed in by Diana Silva to take Portugal into the tournament and inflict Czechia’s fourth play-off reverse as their search for a debut goes on.
Silva finished with a brace that helped the women qualify and put her name into the record books forever.
Portugal advanced 3-2 on aggregate.
Manager Francisco Neto: “This is what being Portugal is about. It’s about vibrating and realizing that those inside, as well as those in the stands, like the millions in Portugal, are very proud of our players. Therefore, it is a pride and an honor to be part of this journey and, of course, I’m privileged to be with them. I told them a few days ago, jokingly but a little seriously, that I came here at 32 years old and they made me a manager, as I also hope I helped some of them to be better.”
Patrícia Morais: “The victory was more important. We made history once again and secured another European Championship. We showed what Portugal is made of. It was in the most difficult moments that this team showed itself.”
Kika Nazareth: “Regardless of whether we didn’t play the best game, in both games we were better. We are the ones there because we deserve it. We are very grateful to our fans, who are always there to support us.”
Diana Silva: “Goals are all important and these were super important because they got us through, but nothing would have been possible without these fantastic teammates.”
