Sporting CP Beat Benfica in Cup Final to Complete Domestic Double; Video Highlights

Sporting CP won Taça de Portugal with a dramatic 3-1 extra-time win over rival Benfica on Sunday at the Estádio Nacional do Jamor in Oeiras.

The two clubs played in the Cup Final against each other for the first time in 29 years.

With the triumph, Sporting secured their 18th Cup title and completed their first domestic double in 23 years.

The final at Jamor was heated from the start, but it was Benfica who struck first through Orkun Kökçü in the 47th minute.

It seemed the Cup was heading to the Eagles, but Renato Sanches conceded a stoppage-time penalty.

Viktor Gyökeres converted in the 90+10 minute to level the match and force the dramatic extra-time.

Sporting dominated extra time. In the 99th minute, Conrad Harder put the Lions ahead with a well-placed header past Soares.

Benfica pushed for an equalizer, but Francisco Trincão struck in the 120+1 minute to seal the victory.

“We almost lost, but in the last minute (we saved it), only a great team can do this,” Sporting midfielder Morten Hjulmand told Sport TV.
